Treating Hyperpigmentation

September 02 2022

Hyperpigmentation refers to the darkening of skin spots relative to the surrounding skin. It happens when the skin generates an abnormal amount of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color. It is capable of affecting all skin types.

Here are several treatments for Hyperpigmentation.

1. Chemical Peels

Chemical peel employs acids in higher concentrations. They diminish the appearance of Hyperpigmentation by eliminating the skin's outermost layer (epidermis). Deeper versions may potentially enter the dermis to create more pronounced results.

2. Intense pulse light therapy (IPL)

Under IPL, the Hyperpigmentation is removed with short, intense, iridescent bursts of light. The light's energy enters the dermal layers beneath the skin's surface and starts to target the melanin responsible for the spots. The heat permeates and shatters the pigment particles' bonds by penetrating and attacking them. The nanoparticles then rise to the surface to form scabs, which eventually fall off, conveyed by the lymph and cleared by the body's natural processes.

3. Microneedling

Microneedling is a painless skin treatment in which numerous thin needles are used to puncture the top layer of skin. Your body perceives the tiny needle scratches as injuries and immediately dispatches growth factors, elastin, and collagen to the site to create repairs and regenerate skin and tissue. Therefore, the method is also known as collagen induction therapy.

4. Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a technique to address Hyperpigmentation affecting only the epidermis (superficial scarring). Our professional staff at Vistoso Med Spa will employ a drill-like handheld instrument with a wire brush or other abrasive attachment throughout the treatment. The instrument is then swiftly but gently moved across the skin to remove the epidermis.

5. Laser Skin Resurfacing

A laser peel or resurfacing therapy reduces Hyperpigmentation by targeting light beams.
Ablative laser is the most powerful and involves the removal of skin layers. In contrast, the non-ablative technique targets the dermis, stimulating collagen development and tightening benefits.

6. PRP Therapy

PRP therapy is the intradermal injection of platelet-rich, vitamin- and mineral-enriched blood plasma. PRP is utilized to fill & thicken the skin, enhance skin tone and texture, lessen the visible indications of aging, and treat pigmentation, scarring, and stretch marks.

Skincare products that can help with Hyperpigmentation

VivierSkin

Using chemical exfoliants, such as the glycolic & lactic acids in Vivier Exfoliant Forte, allows the skin to shed surface-dwelling dead cells and removes overly-pigmented cells.
